HOW TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION FROM SMOKING TO VAPING

Posted by Stuart Rosenfarb on

If you or someone you care about has recently decided to transition from smoking to vaping and have either taken the first steps or are planning to soon, we have some helpful advice that will help make the transition easier and long-lasting.

  1. Do not change your habit, change what you use to satisfy the craving. For example, if you are used to a 10 minute smoke break, give yourself 10 minutes for a vape break as well.  If you used to go outside for a smoke, go outside for a vape as well. If you liked having a coffee with your smoke, well ... you get the point. While vaping offers you the ability to satisfy your cravings indoors (in many cases) and in less time than smoking, it is important not to change your routine too much at the beginning as you are also addicted to your routine and if it changes too quickly, you may find yourself missing the routine and mistake this for missing your cigarettes. If you keep your routine the same for the first 2-3 weeks, vaping will not seem like much of a change at all (except you won't stink all the time, your cough will disappear and you'll feel great about the positive changes that you are making to your health).

  2. Choose a high-quality tobacco eJuice instead of a fruit or dessert flavour to start. eJuices from companies such as Drake's that are made from real tobacco extracts, or high quality flavoured tobacco eJuices from a company such as Halo will reduce any hankering for a cigarette in the early days of your transition. This is primarily due to the fact that you will be vaping something very similar in taste to what you were smoking, just without all of the toxins and carbon monoxide to go along with it. Transitioning using a tobacco eJuice will make it that much harder to distinguish the difference between your cigarette and your vape and this will significantly improve your chances of a successful transition.

  3. Start with a salt nicotine eJuice. Salt nicotine is the type of nicotine that is used when higher nicotine strengths are required to satisfy the cravings of someone who is used to the quantity of nicotine present in cigarettes. Salt nicotine, unlike regular freebase nicotine, has two major benefits. It is smoother on the throat at higher nicotine strengths and it enters your bloodstream faster providing you with a quick fix for your craving. The downside of salt nicotine is that it leaves your bloodstream quicker than regular nicotine and so you may find yourself craving another vape quicker than you would with an eJuice containing regular freebase nicotine.

  4. Inhale using the same type of draw as you did when smoking. It is tempting to buy a vape starter kit that offers huge blooms of vapour, but these devices require that you take a draw in which the vapour enters your lungs directly instead of getting the vapour in your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs. While this may be pleasureful and offer great flavour, this is not the way that you inhale from a cigarette and so the act of vaping will not emulate what you are used to.  Instead, opt for a mouth-to-lung device such as a pod system with an atomizer coil that has a resistance of 1.0ohm or higher. You will be able to take the same type of draw that you did with a cigarette and you will be able to use a higher nicotine strength which will satisfy your post-smoking cravings quickly.
